ASCA Announces Plans for 2023

Dec 16, 2022

The Australian Specialty Coffee Association recently announced on their Instagram page that they will not be sending a competitor to Athens for either the World Brewers Cup or World Barista Championships.

The post explains, “Given the unrealistic WCE timelines for Brewers Cup and Barista Competitions, it has made it impossible for ASCA to run the standard Regional and Nationals competitions to the very high standards that we now hold ourselves to.”

“We will not be sending Australian Champions to Greece for Brewers Cup or Barista. Our current 2022 Australian Cup Tasters Champion, Young Beck, will be flying the flag and representing Australia in Greece at the World Cup Tasters Championship.”

This unfortunate but understandable news comes as Australia is still riding the high of winning the World Barista Championship 2022 thanks to Axil Coffee’s Anthony Douglas.

The ASCA’s post further explains their regional and national competition plans for 2023 before wrapping up with the following message:

“Whilst it is disappointing not to run all our standard Regional and National Competitions in 2023, we will be far better placed to send all our National Champions to the World Competitions in 2024. Thank you to all of our partners, competitors and members for the ongoing support and we can’t wait to see how our champions compete in the upcoming World Championships!”
